CM Naidu directs officials to respond in real time
Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu has issued a directive to authorities, emphasizing the need for a real-time response to the ongoing heavy rains and floods in the districts. In a teleconference held with the chief secretary, DGP, ministers, district collectors, and superintendents of police, the Chief Minister stressed the importance of utilizing drones and CCTV cameras to monitor the situation closely and respond promptly. The Chief Minister instructed the agriculture department to immediately gather information on crop damage as soon as the floodwaters recede.
During the review meeting, CM Naidu stated that the Prakasam Barrage is expected to receive a flood inflow of 9 to 10 lakh cusecs by evening (Sunday). He acknowledged that while the intensity of rainfall has decreased compared to Saturday, several houses and colonies remain submerged. He emphasized that the focus should be on resolving flooding within residential areas and colonies rather than diverting water onto roads. In some areas, more than 27 centimeters of rain have been recorded, necessitating a concentrated effort to address the situation. Unprecedented rainfall CM Chandrababu Naidu highlighted that the State has experienced rainfall of a magnitude not seen in the last 50 years, leading to unprecedented flooding of national highways.
He informed that a letter has been sent to the National Highway Authority, urging them to coordinate with State authorities to address the issue. The Chief Minister called for the use of drones to survey the flood-affected areas and develop a comprehensive rescue plan. With food and water supplies contaminated due to the floods, he ordered that immediate sanitation measures be taken in the affected villages and that floodwaters be swiftly drained from residential areas. He also directed the setting up of medical camps and the spraying of bleaching powder to prevent the spread of diseases. Budameru flood in NTR district Minister Narayana reported that several areas in NTR district have been severely affected by the Budameru flood. Responding to this, CM Chandrababu Naidu urged officials from various departments, including irrigation, to collaborate and address the crisis.
Minister Kolusu Parthasaradhi detailed the damage caused by record rainfall in Nuzvid constituency, while Minister Nadendla Manohar assured the Chief Minister that essential supplies, including rice, have been distributed to affected areas. Minister Achchennaidu outlined the actions being taken by the Agriculture Department to combat the flood’s impact. The Chief Minister emphasized that once the floodwaters recede, a comprehensive assessment of property and crop damage must be conducted promptly, and immediate assistance should be provided to affected farmers and families. Authorities have estimated that the water flow from Prakasam Barrage could reach 9 to 10 lakh cusecs by Sunday evening.
The district collector of Bapatla reported that 6,000 people have been relocated to rehabilitation centers downstream of the barrage. CM Naidu instructed that residents in downstream villages be alerted and evacuated to safety. The Chief Minister also received a briefing from the NTR District Collector and DGP on the stoppage of trains at Rayanapadu railway station due to the floods and the assistance provided to passengers. CM Chandrababu Naidu underscored the importance of submitting damage assessments to the Central government and reminded officials that public satisfaction hinges on the effectiveness of the government’s response.
He insisted that crop assessments be thorough and accurate, leaving no area unassessed. He emphasized that no farmer should face injustice and that damage to houses and livestock should also be carefully evaluated. CM Naidu concluded by reiterating that any lapses in performance or system deficiencies could prevent the public from receiving accurate information, and stressed that serving the people faithfully would build trust and confidence in the government.
