New innings: Kapil Dev takes over as President of Professional Golf Tour of India

The former India cricket captain Kapil Dev, who led India to a World Cup win in 1983, has become the new President of the Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI). This is a significant step for Kapil, who has been involved with the PGTI as its Vice President and a member of the board. He will be taking over from the outgoing President, H R Srinivasan.

Kapil, who is known for his love of golf and was once a keen amateur golfer with an impressive handicap, expressed his honor in being chosen as the President of PGTI. He mentioned that he has been associated with the organization for several years and considers it a players’ body, emphasizing his friendships with many of the players.

Kapil has been proactive in seeking new sponsors for PGTI and has successfully introduced the Kapil Dev Grant Thornton Invitational, one of the most lucrative events in the tour, featuring a purse of approximately Rs 2 crore.

In addition to his cricketing achievements, Kapil’s passion for golf has led him to participate in major events such as the Dunhill Links, where he played alongside global celebrities. He emphasized the relaxing nature of golf and expressed his commitment to taking the sport to new heights.

Kapil Dev’s prowess on the cricket field includes 131 Test matches and 225 one-day internationals, where he scored a total of 9026 runs and took 687 wickets. His unbeaten 175 runs in the 1983 World Cup is celebrated as one of the finest innings in cricket history.
