Deputy Chief Minister Udayanidhi recently expressed his pride in being a Christian, stating that all religions promote spiritual values. He was the chief guest at the Christmas celebrations held at Bethel Christian Temple near Gandhipuram, Coimbatore, on Thursday.
During his speech at the event, Udayanidhi emphasized that Christmas is a festival that brings joy to the entire world. He mentioned his deep affection for Christmas and remarked that his participation in the celebrations this year and identification as a Christian has become a point of contention for his opponents.
He stated, "If people consider me a Christian, then I am a Christian; if they consider me a Muslim, then I am a Muslim; if they consider me a Hindu, then I am a Hindu." Udayanidhi conveyed that he embraces all religions. He articulated the DMK's belief that politics should not be based on religion in the country.
He also criticized the AIADMK party for its silence in the face of recent statements made by an Allahabad High Court judge against Muslims, highlighting the support of all DMK and coalition party MPs for the bill to remove the judge from office in Parliament. Udayanidhi questioned the AIADMK’s claim to be a party that protects minorities under such circumstances.
He concluded by noting that Christians and Muslims have consistently supported the DMK and highlighted the party's commitment to implementing welfare schemes for these communities without compromising their faith.
