Nag Ashwin’s “Kalki 2898 AD” Sets Box Office Records with Rs 191.5 Crore Opening Day

Nag Ashwin’s 3D spectacle “Kalki 2898 AD” had a record-breaking opening at the global box office, earning Rs 191.5 crore gross on its release day, the producers announced on Friday. The big-budget film, which combines the Hindu epic Mahabharata with science fiction, is produced by Vyjayanthi Movies and was released in six languages: Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada, Hindi, and English. The movie stars Prabhas, Deepika Padukone, Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan, Disha Patani, Saswata Chatterjee, and Shobhana. “Kalki 2898 AD” is the third highest opening day gross collection for any Indian film, following SS Rajamouli’s “RRR” (Rs 223 crores) and “Baahubali 2” (Rs 217 crores), both of which also featured Prabhas in the lead. Despite earlier predictions of a global opening day earnings of around Rs 200 crore, the film fell just short of that mark. The film, previously titled “Project K”, is reportedly the most expensive feature film in Indian cinema history, with a budget of Rs 600 crore. Large crowds were seen outside theaters in Hyderabad and Mumbai, and the initial reviews were favorable.
