Kakinada: May 3: In a significant development, Kranthi, daughter of former minister and YSRCP leader Mudragada Padmanabham, has openly opposed her father’s recent challenge directed at Jana Sena chief and Pithapuram Assembly contestant Pawan Kalyan.
Padmanabham stirred a controversy on April 30 by announcing that he would change his surname to Reddy if he failed to ensure Pawan Kalyan’s defeat in Pithapuram. “I will change my name to Mudragada Padmanabha Reddy instead of Padmanabham,” he declared.
The criticism intensified as Mudragada questioned Pawan Kalyan’s absence during the agitation for Kapu community reservation, labelling it as a discredit to the JSP chief for choosing to contest from Pithapuram while hailing from Hyderabad.
Responding to her father’s statements, Kranthi released a video on Friday expressing her disagreement and pledging her efforts towards ensuring Pawan Kalyan’s victory in the ongoing elections.
She expressed confusion over her father’s unconventional challenge, stating that even Mudragada’s supporters were dismayed by his remarks. Kranthi emphasised that while her father can work diligently for the success of his party’s candidate Vanga Geetha, derogatory comments against Pawan Kalyan and his supporters should be avoided.
Kranthi also alleged that the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) was instigating her father to criticise Pawan Kalyan, suggesting that Mudragada might be sidelined after the election activities concluded. She made it unequivocally clear that she stands in opposition to her father’s views and is committed to supporting Pawan Kalyan’s victory.

Former minister Mudragada Padmanbham has issued a response to the comments made by his daughter, Kranthi, regarding his political stance. Kranthi, in a video released on Friday, expressed her disagreement with her father’s challenge to Jana Sena chief Pawan Kalyan and opposed his statement of potentially changing his surname if unable to secure Kalyan’s defeat in Pithapuram.
Mudragada Padmanabham, however, brushed off his daughter’s criticism, stating that she is not his property as she is already married. He dismissed any fear or concern regarding her comments, attributing them to external influence. “My daughter is not my property. She has already been married. Some persons are trying to create conflicts between me and my daughter. I don’t care,” he remarked.
Furthermore, Mudragada Padmanabham reiterated his loyalty to Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy, signalling his unwavering commitment to his political affiliations despite familial disagreements.
