Kakinada : June 20: Kapu leader Mudragada Padmanabham has officially changed his name to Mudragada Padmanabha Reddy, as recorded in the Andhra Pradesh Gazette. This decision follows his unsuccessful bid to defeat Jana Sena Party leader K Pawan Kalyan in the Pithapuram Assembly constituency.

Mudragada Padmanabham, who recently joined the YSR Congress Party in March, had pledged to adopt the surname ‘Reddy’ if he could not secure victory against Pawan Kalyan. The latter emerged victorious in the Pithapuram seat, defeating veteran politician and former MP Vanga Geetha of the YSR Congress by a significant margin of over 65,000 votes.

Both Mudragada and Pawan Kalyan hail from the Kapu community, adding an interesting dynamic to the electoral contest. Despite the electoral setback, Mudragada has reiterated his support for the YSR Congress PartyPawan Kalyan himself has been appointed as the Deputy Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, marking a significant turn of events in state politics.
