It is known that Meta is the parent company of popular networking and social messaging sites like Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram. However, a computer services company from Brazil won the legal battle claiming that the name Meta belongs to them. That Brazilian company is called Meta Services. Meta Services filed a lawsuit in Sao Paulo, Brazil, alleging confusion among third-party clients because Facebook parent company Meta also uses the same name.
The court that investigated this… ordered the parent company of Facebook to stop using the name Meta within a month or pay a fine of Rs 16.73 lakh per day. Meta has not yet responded to this verdict. However, the decision of the court in Saopa can be appealed in the higher court.
Meta Services revealed that they had registered the name Meta with the Brazilian Intellectual Property Office in 2000. Meanwhile, Facebook became meta in October 2021.
