An individual affiliated with an educational institute in Kolkata has been arrested for allegedly accepting money from a student’s parent and offering a spot on the NEET merit list, as per the police statement on Wednesday. The accused also guaranteed the student a seat in a medical college in Kolkata, according to a senior officer. The police officer stated, “We apprehended the accused on Tuesday night based on a complaint filed at the Shakespeare Sarani Police Station. We are currently interrogating him to ascertain whether he is connected to any illegal activities.” Numerous irregularities have been reported in the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (Undergraduate) or NEET, which was conducted by the National Testing Agency in May. The student’s father alleged in his complaint that he had paid Rs 5 lakh of the Rs 12 lakh demanded by the accused for the arrangement, the officer disclosed. The accused has been charged under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), the officer added.
