The Maoists attacked the security forces who were carrying out a special operation, leading to an exchange of fire between the security forces and the Maoists. Both sides engaged in a fierce battle, exchanging gunfire. According to the police, 36 Maoists were killed in the exchange of fire, and their bodies were found at the scene.
A significant amount of automatic weapons and explosives, including AK-47 rifles, were recovered from the deceased. The security forces mentioned that the death toll might increase as the encounter continues. The police stated that more than 170 Maoists have been killed in the Bastar region this year.
Additionally, on September 3, a significant encounter occurred in Dantewada, Chhattisgarh. Upon receiving information about the presence of Maoists on the borders of Bijapur and Dantewada districts, the police conducted a search operation. It was reported that the Maoists opened fire on the security forces, prompting the police to retaliate. In this encounter, 9 Maoists were killed, according to official sources.
It was revealed that a significant amount of explosives were recovered from the incident site. The police claimed to have recovered 12 guns and 303 self-loading rifles.
