Six Members of Parliament from Maharashtra have been included in the Modi 3.0 coalition government. The BJP has secured four positions, while allies Shiv Sena and RPI (A) have each received one position.
The NCP, led by Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, declined the BJP’s offer of Minister of State (MoS) with independent charge. Instead, they insisted on a cabinet berth for Praful Patel.
In the previous term of the Modi government (2019-24), there were eight ministers from Maharashtra representing the BJP and its allies. This number has decreased to six in the new government.
Among the new government appointees, BJP MPs Nitin Gadkari and Piyush Goyal have retained their positions as cabinet ministers. Additionally, Raksha Khadse, BJP’s only female MP from Maharashtra, and first-time MP Murlidhar Mohol were sworn in as Ministers of State.
Within BJP’s allies, RPI (A) chief Ramdas Athawale has retained his position as MoS with independent charge, and Prataprao Jadhav from the Shiv Sena, led by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, has also taken oath as an MoS with independent charge.
Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis assured that the NCP’s demands will be considered in future cabinet expansions, emphasizing the need to respect coalition formulas.
