Maharashtra Software Professional Loses Rs 40 Lakh in Online Task Fraud

A 25-year-old software professional from Maharashtra’s Thane district allegedly lost around Rs 40 lakh in a “task fraud,” according to an official statement on Saturday.

The resident of the Kalyan area reported being cheated between June 6 and June 16.

The complainant told the police that two individuals contacted him, offering a part-time job that involved rating hotels and restaurants online. He initially received payment for the tasks but was later persuaded to invest in schemes promising high returns. Over ten days, he ended up paying a total of Rs 40.4 lakh, as mentioned in the FIR.

The victim realized he had been scammed when he did not receive any returns on his investments despite following up.

Following the complaint, the Kolsewadi police registered a case against two individuals, including one identified as Avika Mishra, for cheating.

An investigation is ongoing to identify and track down the alleged scammers, as stated by the official.
