Larsen and Toubro (L&T), an infrastructure major, announced on Monday that it has secured a significant contract to construct a grid-connected solar plant along with a battery energy storage system in Bihar. According to L&T, the value of the contract ranges between Rs 1,000 crore and Rs 2,500 crore. The order was secured by L&T’s power transmission and distribution vertical, as disclosed in a filing with the BSE. The solar project, located in Kajra village in Lakhisarai district of Bihar, is an integral part of the state’s effort to utilize renewable energy for sustainable solutions in addressing climate change and meeting increasing demand for energy. Furthermore, the battery energy storage system will be utilized to store solar energy during periods of low demand and release it during peak demand. It will also assist in managing fluctuations in energy generation, providing frequency regulation, and maintaining voltage stability. Additionally, it will have the capability to re-energize the grid quickly after an outage. Larsen & Toubro is a USD 27 billion Indian multinational enterprise that is involved in engineering, procurement and construction projects, as well as hi-tech manufacturing and services, operating across multiple geographies.
