In East Godavari District, there have been reports of a cheetah roaming in the nurseries near Kadiyapulanka, Chekkapally, causing concern among the residents. The cheetah is suspected to have been present in the area for the past four days and indications suggest that it has preyed on animals during this time. The forest department has mobilized 60 personnel, set up six trap cameras, and placed two baits in an effort to capture the cheetah. The people in the Kadiam mandal area have been living in fear due to the presence of the cheetah, and the forest officials have issued alerts to the residents of Mandapeta and Alamur mandals.
Two days ago, locals spotted a leopard in a nursery near a Kalyanamandapam in Kadiam and promptly informed the forest department. Upon investigation, the forest personnel confirmed the presence of a leopard based on the footprints found in the area. Nearby villages have been cautioned to remain vigilant, and a cage has been set up to capture the leopard. Kadiyapulanka is home to numerous nurseries, and the workers there are expressing significant concern about the presence of leopards.
Three weeks ago, a leopard was sighted in the outskirts of Rajahmundry in the Rajahmundry-Rajanagaram reserve forest area. The in-charge DFO Bharani has responded to this by deploying 36 trap cameras to monitor the leopard’s movements. It has been identified that the leopard is frequenting the reserve forest area, which is densely populated. Efforts are underway to safely return the leopard to the forest, and the in-charge DFO has emphasized that the leopard will be captured with the necessary permissions if any untoward incident occurs. Parents have been advised not to allow their children outside at night as a precaution.
