Jagan seeks five-year general passport, High Court adjourns hearing

YSR Congress Party chief and former Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has filed a lunch motion petition in the Andhra Pradesh High Court seeking the issuance of a general passport for a period of five years. The High Court, after hearing the initial plea on Friday, adjourned the case until Monday.

As a result, YS Jagan has postponed his scheduled trip to London. Following the cancellation of his diplomatic passport after stepping down as Chief Minister, Jagan had applied for a general passport. The Hyderabad CBI Court had earlier granted permission to issue him a general passport valid for five years.

However, when the matter was taken up in the Vijayawada People’s Representative Court, the court ruled that a passport should be granted for only one year. Unhappy with the decision, Jagan moved the High Court today, seeking a passport with a longer validity of five years. With the adjournment of the hearing, Jagan’s London visit has been delayed, pending the court’s decision.
