The country’s coal production increased by 10.15 percent to 83.91 million tonnes (MT) in May compared to 76.18 MT in the same period last year. The state-owned Coal India Ltd (CIL) saw a 7.46 percent increase in production, reaching 64.40 MT in May, compared to 59.93 MT in the previous year. Coal India Ltd (CIL) contributes to over 80 percent of the domestic coal output. Additionally, coal production by other entities in May 2024 stood at 13.78 MT, showing a growth of 32.76 percent from the previous year, which was 10.38 MT. India’s overall coal dispatches in May rose to 90.84 MT, an increase of 10.35 percent compared to the same period last financial year. During the reported month, CIL dispatched 69.08 MT of coal, with an 8.50 percent increase from the previous fiscal year when it was 63.67 MT. The total stock of dry fuel with coal companies stands at 96.48 MT.
