Indian Cricket Team Delayed by Hurricane Beryl: A Journey Home

The departure of the T20 World Cup-winning Indian cricket team from the Caribbean island has been delayed because the charter flight, Air India Champions 24 World Cup (AIC24WC), has not yet arrived. The special Air India charter flight is expected to bring back the Indian squad, support staff, players’ families, some board officials, and Indian media who have been stranded for the past three days due to Hurricane Beryl. The flight, which took off from New Jersey, USA on July 2, is anticipated to land in Barbados around 2 am local time. However, as per the new schedule, the flight is now expected to depart from Barbados at 4:30 am local time with an estimated flying time of 16 hours to Delhi, where the team is expected to land on Thursday at 6 am (IST), barring any further delays. The Grantley Adams International airport in Barbados resumed its operations on Tuesday. Initially, the Indian team was scheduled to depart around 6 pm local time on July 2 and arrive at 7:45 pm (IST) on Wednesday. The players are also planned to be felicitated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, although the schedule for that event has not been finalized. Furthermore, Hurricane Beryl has now been downgraded to a Category 4 storm from Category 5 as it moves towards Jamaica.
