The Hyderabad Development Authority (HYDRA) has intensified its efforts to combat illegal constructions by focusing on the officials who permitted these unauthorized developments on original pond lands. In a decisive move, HYDRA has initiated legal proceedings against six officials accused of granting permissions for these illegal structures.
Hyderabad Police Commissioner Avinash Mahanty has registered criminal cases against the implicated officials. Those named include Chandanagar GHMC deputy commissioner Sudhams, Bachupalli mandal revenue officer (MRO), Medchal-Malkajgiri land records officer, HMDA assistant planning officer Sudhir Kumar, HMDA city planner Rajakumar, and Nizampet municipal commissioner Ramakrishna.
The legal actions were prompted by a comprehensive inquiry conducted by HYDRA, which revealed the officials’ involvement in facilitating unauthorized constructions in protected pond areas. In parallel, revenue officials have ramped up their efforts to dismantle illegal structures in Miyapur.
A case has been filed against Sudhakar Reddy, the owner of Maps Infra, for constructing illegally in the Miyapur pond area. Further cases have been registered against other builders responsible for unauthorized developments in the Erragunta and Eerla ponds. Among the accused are Swarnalatha and Akkiraju Srinivas, who have been found guilty of constructing multi-storied buildings in these environmentally sensitive zones.
