High Court directs Andhra govt to address police vacancies

The High Court has mandated the Andhra Pradesh government to submit an affidavit detailing the measures being implemented to address vacancies in the police department. This directive serves as a reminder of the Supreme Court’s earlier instructions for High Courts to ensure that police and armed forces vacancies are filled annually, aimed at alleviating work pressure on these services.

The bench, consisting of Chief Justice Dhiraj Singh Thakur and Justice Cheemalapati Ravi, issued the order during a hearing on Wednesday. The next court session has been scheduled for three weeks from now.

The directive follows a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by Keethinidi Akhil Sriguruteja, managing trustee of the Help the People Charitable Trust, urging the government to expedite the filling of various vacant positions within the police department. The court has now called for a formal response from the state government regarding this matter.
