Godavari river swells, heavy rains predicted in Coastal Andhra

East Godavari With continuous heavy rains, the Godavari River is overflowing, prompting officials at Dhavaleshwaram to issue the first emergency alert. The current inflow and outflow at Dhavaleshwaram stand at 10.52 lakh cusecs, raising concerns across six affected districts. The Disaster Management Agency has alerted local authorities, and urged residents in the Godavari basin to remain vigilant. At Bhadrachalam, the water level has risen to 43.3 feet, further escalating the flood threat.

A low-pressure system formed in the west-central and northwest Bay of Bengal, adjacent to the North Andhra and South Odisha coasts, is moving northwards and is expected to intensify into a cyclone within the next two to three days. This weather system, caused by surface circulation, led to widespread rainfall across North Coast, South Coast, and Rayalaseema regions on Thursday. The Meteorological Department has predicted heavy rains from Srikakulam to Krishna district on Friday.

Fishermen in North Andhra have been warned against venturing into the sea due to strong coastal winds. While heavier rains are expected to affect the northern coast on Friday and Saturday, the central coast is likely to experience light to moderate rainfall. Local authorities are monitoring the situation closely, and residents in flood-prone areas are advised to stay alert as rainfall and water levels continue to rise.
