According to the police, an encounter between security personnel and a Naxalite resulted in the death of the Naxalite in Sukma district of Chhattisgarh on Monday morning. The gunfight occurred in a forest area under the Kistaram police station region when the District Reserve Guard (DRG) and Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA) were conducting an anti-Naxal operation. The exchange of fire occurred between the Naxalites and the DRG team in the forest, which is located around 450 km from the state capital Raipur. After the gunfight stopped, the police recovered the body of a Naxalite and a weapon from the spot. The search operation is still ongoing in the area. As per the police, this year, 81 Naxalites have been killed in separate encounters in the Bastar region, which includes seven districts, including Sukma. On April 16, security forces gunned down 29 Naxalites in an encounter in Kanker district of the region.
