Spouses of AP politicians step in election campaigns

Elections-2024 The political landscape in Andhra Pradesh has witnessed an increased fervour with the active participation of spouses of several political figures such as chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu, and TDP national general secretary Nara Lokesh, adding a layer of significance to the ongoing election campaigns.

Amidst the intense campaign against Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy by his own family members, including his sister and APCC chief YS Sharmila and cousin N Sunitha, the involvement of YS Bharathi, Jagan’s wife, holds political significance. The family disputes and the aftermath of the late YSRCP leader YS Vivekanada Reddy’s murder have fueled a strong campaign against Jagan, creating a challenging political scenario for him. In response, Bharathi embarked on a grassroots campaign in Pulivendula assembly constituency, engaging with constituents and addressing local issues while Jagan focuses on statewide canvassing.

Similarly, Bhuvaneswari, wife of Chandrababu Naidu, (spouses) is set to intensify her campaign, supporting Naidu’s candidacy in the Kuppam assembly segment. Her courageous stance during Naidu’s legal challenges in the skill development case and her ongoing support to the TDP cadre reflect her dedication to the party’s cause under the banner of “Nijam Gelavali”.

Furthermore, Nara Brahmani, wife of N Lokesh (spouses) has joined the campaign trail in Mangalagiri for some days, contributing to the election narrative in her husband’s constituency.( Elections-2024 )

Beyond these prominent examples, wives and other women in families of contesting candidates across various constituencies in Andhra Pradesh are actively engaging with voters, aiming to garner public support for their respective candidates. Their active involvement not only demonstrates their commitment to supporting their partners in politics but also adds depth and diversity to the ongoing election campaigns in the state.
