AP Politics: TDP, Jana Sena, BJP combination pins hope in 28-30 seats

Amaravati: The voters of erstwhile Godavari districts always give a one-sided clear-cut majority to the parties either TDP, Congress or YSR Congress in any election in the history of Andhra Pradesh politics. (AP Politics)
The judgment of the people of Godavari districts in elections has always been a deciding factor in the formation of any government. Since the establishment of TDP in 1983, the people of Godavari districts have been supporting the political party which will come into power.
The districts can be described as mood swing districts in the elections of Andhra Pradesh and the voters are also being treated as trendsetters.

In 1983, the TDP registered a landslide victory in all the constituencies in Godavari districts except in the Chintalapudi Assembly segment. Former Minister Kotagiri Vidyadhar Rao won as an independent in the election. Later he also joined the TDP.
In the 1985 Assembly elections, the TDP won all the Assembly segments except Amalapuram Assembly. Kudipudi Prabhakara Rao won on Congress ticket. Chittaranjan Alugu also won from Achanta Assembly on CPI with the support of TDP. The TDP won in the two elections consecutively.
In the 1989 elections, the Congress party won majority number of 21 seats while the TDP was confined to 13 Assembly segments against the clean sweep trends of the previous elections. The Congress came to power in the state by winning majority seats in the election.
Coming to 1994, the scene was reversed and TDP again won all the seats except Mummidivaram and Attili in the two districts of Godavari. The TDP came to power in the election under the leadership of NT Rama Rao.
In the 1999 election, the TDP lost only four seats in the total 34 seats of Godavari districts under the leadership of Nara Chandrababu Naidu. He again became the Chief Minister for the second term.
The Congress won only two seats Jakkampudi Rammohan Rao from Kadiyam and GS Rao from Kovuru. Apart from this two independents and two BJP candidates were elected under the purview of Godavari districts.
In the 2004 elections, Congress led by YS Rajasekhar Reddy came to power. The TDP was restricted to only 6 Assembly segments in the two districts. Two independents and one BJP MLA won in the election. Congress won 29 seats in total 34 seats.
In 2009 elections, (AP Politics) TDP won only 9 seats while erstwhile Prajarajayam won only 5 seats though the majority of Kapu section of people are in the districts. Congress won 20 Assembly segments and again YS Rajasekhar Reddy came to power.
In the 2014 election again the TDP won 29 seats while the main Opposition YSR Congress won only 5 seats. The BJP and an independent won each one seat in the election. The TDP came to power which was the first election after the state bifurcation. The YSR Congress had at least not won one seat in West Godavari district.
In 2019 elections the TDP was again restricted to only 6 seats in the limits of two districts. YSR Congress bagged 28 seats while Jana Sena won only one seat in Rajole which is first victory of the party. But later the elected MLA joined YSR Congress.
In this backdrop, the districts have been treated as swing districts in the political battle of Andhra Pradesh. Now the mood of Godavari districts assumed significance when TDP, Jana Sena and BJP are contesting unitedly as NDA partners.
As per the studies of NDA parties and various reports, the three parties combination has good prospects to register a landslide victory in the two districts continuing the past trend. The combination is likely to win 28 to 30 MLA seats like many election results in the past. The constituencies of Polavaram, Gopalapuram, Rampachodavaram, Tuni, and Anaparthy are doubtful to win for the alliance parties. The candidates’ of the three parties are in a strong position in the remaining MLA seats. Several prominent leaders like D Purandewari, Pawan Kalyan, RRR, Gorantla Buchaiah Chowdary, Nimmakayala Chinarajappa, Jyothula Nehru, Vangalapudi Anita, N Ramanaidu, Chintamaneni Prabhakar are in TDP side while Vanga Geeta, Pilli Subhashchandra Bose, DwarampudiChandrasekhar Reddy and several leaders are testing their luck from YSR Congress.
