DGP directs liquor ban in AP ahead of vote counting

Vijayawada: May 29: Andhra Pradesh Director General of Police (DGP) Harish Kumar Gupta has issued instructions banning liquor sales in State from June 3 to 5, in connection with the upcoming vote counting scheduled for June 4. This decision was made during a review meeting led by chief electoral officer Mukesh Kumar Meena on May 28.
During the meeting, Gupta instructed the police to implement necessary measures to prevent any law and order issues during the counting process. He emphasised the importance of maintaining peace and security during this critical period and directed the Superintendent of police Malika Garg to ensure that fire tenders were kept ready for emergencies.

In addition to these measures, Gupta urged the monitoring of social media posts that could potentially incite disturbances. The SP has been instructed to conduct thorough security checks at all hotels and lodges and to detain any suspicious individuals. To enhance transparency and accountability, body cameras will be provided to all police personnel involved in the security operations.
Palnadu collector Lathkar Shrikesh Balajirao stated that if tension arises, prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the CrPC would be enforced across the district. This proactive step aims at maintaining law and order during the election counting process, ensuring a peaceful and secure environment for all residents in Palnadu district.
