The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has requested a report from Air India regarding the use of an aircraft scheduled for a flight from Newark to Delhi to instead fly the Indian cricket team from Barbados. This decision reportedly caused inconvenience for passengers, as the aircraft scheduled for the commercial flight was instead used for the cricket team’s chartered flight. The T20 World Cup-winning Indian cricket team is expected to arrive in Delhi on Thursday morning via a specially chartered Air India flight with the call sign AIC24WC. According to an Air India official, most passengers booked on the Newark to Delhi flight were informed of the change in advance, but some who were not informed arrived at the airport and were transported by road to New York to board an alternate flight to Delhi. This change was due to the delayed departure of the cricket team caused by Hurricane Beryl, and the chartered flight was arranged by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
