DGCA Eases Seaplane Regulations to Boost Remote Connectivity Under UDAAN Scheme

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) announced on Thursday that it has eased regulations for seaplane operations under the UDAAN regional air connectivity scheme. The updated norms aim to simplify infrastructure procedures, pilot training requirements, and regulatory compliances, enabling seaplane services to reach remote areas. The revised regulations include easier training requirements and simplified approval processes for seaplane operations.

Following the recommendation of a DGCA Working Group to rationalize and revise the regulatory framework, the revised regulations have been issued. Under the new norms, pilots holding a Commercial Pilot License (CPL) can now become seaplane-rated pilots by training at any ICAO-recognized training organization globally. Moreover, new training opportunities for support roles are expected to enhance employment prospects at seaplane hubs across the country.

The regulator noted that the regulatory framework for seaplane operations, established in 2008, was long overdue for a review. The collaborative efforts of all stakeholders have ensured that the new regulations address their primary concerns.
