Devotees flock to Indrakiladri to visit Goddess Mahishasuramardhini

Goddess Kanaka Durga graced devotees in the fierce form of Mahishasuramardhini on the ninth day of the Dussehra Sharannavaratri celebrations atop Indrakiladri, symbolizing the destruction of evil. Despite rains since the early morning, devotees continued to arrive in large numbers, including Bhavanis from distant regions who walked to the temple in devotion. In her dark blue attire, the goddess appeared as Mahishasura Mardini, the divine warrior who vanquished the demon Mahishasura, representing the victory of knowledge over ignorance and good over evil.

According to puranas, this avatar not only symbolizes the removal of negativity but also imparts wisdom and strength to her devotees. The philosophy behind worshiping this form of the goddess is deeply rooted in overcoming suffering and embracing enlightenment.

As the festival reached its peak, the influx of devotees to Indrakiladri increased significantly. Along with regular devotees, many Bhavani Mala Diksha followers also thronged to seek blessings. On Thursday, a significant number of devotees from Southern States visited the temple to witness the goddess in her Mahishasuramardhini avatar. The wait for free darshan extended to 5 hours, with queues stretching from the Ganesha temple, filled with eager worshippers. Several prominent personalities visited the temple to pay their respects.

Union Minister Srinivasa Varma, MLA Sujana Chaudhary, RTC Chairman Konakalla Narayana Rao, Panchayat Raj Department Commissioner Krishna Teja, Vizianagaram MP Appalanaidu, and former MLC Buddha Venkanna were among the dignitaries. MLA Sujana Chaudhary offered silks to the goddess as part of the rituals. Renowned film director AM Ratnam also visited the temple with his family, receiving Vedic blessings from temple priests.
