Devotees flock to Indrakiladri as Kanaka Durga adorned as Mahalakshmi

Silk clothes offered by temples as part of Sharannavaratri celebrations

As part of the grand Dussehra Sharannavaratri celebrations, Kanakadurgamma, the presiding deity atop Indrakiladri temple, was worshipped in the form of Mahalakshmi on Tuesday. Devotees thronged the temple to offer their prayers to the goddess, draped in magnificent attire.

In keeping with tradition, sarees from various temples were presented to the Goddess during the festival. A special team representing Kanipakam Varasiddhi Vinayaka Swamy Devasthanam from Chittoor district offered silk clothes and sarees to the ornately dressed goddess Mahalakshmi. Similarly, Srikalahasti Devasthanam also participated in this ritual, with the temple’s executive officer, Chandrasekhar Azad, presenting the silks to Durgamma.

Temple customs were followed as Vedic scholars blessed the Srikalahasti delegation, and executive officer K S Rama Rao welcomed them with temple etiquette. The group received Prasadam, Seshavastra, and a portrait of the goddess as a token of appreciation. Chandrasekhar Azad mentioned that it has been a long-standing tradition to offer silk clothes to Kanakadurgamma during Dussehra.

This year, the Yanamalakuduru Shiva temple also joined in this sacred offering. Prominent figures, including Revenue, Registration, and Stamps minister Angani Satyaprasad, visited the temple with his family and inquired about the facilities for devotees in the queue lines. Minister Satyaprasad reviewed the arrangements to ensure a smooth darshan experience for the visiting devotees.

Director general of police (DGP) Dwarakathirumala Rao also paid his respects to the Goddess, emphasizing that the police department is committed to providing seamless access to darshan for the general public. He urged devotees coming for VIP darshan to follow their allotted time slots to avoid congestion.

In light of the Moola Nakshatra, when the crowd is expected to swell, Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu will present silk clothes to the Goddess. The DGP instructed the police to ensure a hassle-free experience for all devotees during the festivities.
