The Delhi government is set to hold an emergency meeting on Thursday to address the water crisis that the city is facing due to a prevailing heatwave. Officials have stated that the national capital is experiencing a water shortage as a result of the unprecedented summer heat, with temperatures reaching around 50 degrees Celsius in some parts of the city.
The meeting, scheduled for noon, will be attended by Water Minister Atishi, Health Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj, the chief secretary, and other senior officers. Atishi has alleged that the shortage in water supply is due to Haryana stopping Delhi’s share of water from the Yamuna.
In response to the crisis, the city government has imposed a fine of Rs 2000 for water wastage and has formed 200 teams to enforce the penalty. Additionally, measures such as running tubewells in double shifts and using water tankers to supply water to affected areas have been taken to mitigate the shortage.
