CPI National Secretary K Narayana remarked that the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) suffered a severe loss in the recent elections due to former chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy’s neutral stance regarding the BJP. He noted that Jagan’s inability to take a definitive stand—either aligning with or opposing the BJP—negatively impacted the party’s performance. Addressing reporters in Visakhapatnam, Narayana pointed out that other leaders, such as former chhief ministers K Chandrasekhar Rao of Telangana and Naveen Patnaik of Odisha, also faced significant setbacks due to their neutral political stances. In contrast, he observed that leaders like Chandrababu Naidu and Pawan Kalyan, who have decided to align with the BJP, have taken clear positions. A review was conducted on the results of the recently held general elections. Responding to Jagan’s letter to the Speaker asking for opposition status in the AP Assembly, Narayana emphasized that opposition status is based on the number of assembly members, not the percentage of votes. He stated that the recent elections highlighted the importance of development alongside welfare schemes, attributing YSRCP’s poor performance—securing only 11 seats—to the state’s lack of development. Narayana further criticized that democracy had been undermined during Jagan’s tenure. He mentioned that opposition leaders were barred from visiting Rushikonda in Visakhapatnam, where buildings were being constructed under the Jagan government. Narayana suggested that these buildings should be used by the NDA coalition government for public purposes. Highlighting Janasena chief Pawan Kalyan’s role in the coalition government’s formation, Narayana acknowledged Pawan’s popularity from his film career as a significant advantage in the elections.
