On Friday, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi reviewed the party’s performance in the recent Lok Sabha elections in Karnataka. The ruling Congress secured nine seats, while the BJP and JD(S), a part of NDA, won 17 and two seats, respectively, out of the state’s 28 Lok Sabha segments. Gandhi addressed the newly elected MPs and the party’s losing candidates in Karnataka. The meeting was also attended by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, his deputy D K Shivakumar, who is the party’s state unit chief, and Congress general secretary in-charge of Karnataka, Randeep Singh Surjewala. Additionally, earlier in the day, Gandhi appeared before a special court in connection with a case filed by the BJP’s Karnataka unit for issuing “defamatory” advertisements in mainstream newspapers, and he was granted bail.
