Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu has asserted his commitment to restoring the sanctity of Tirumala, declaring that those responsible for recent controversies will face severe consequences. Addressing reporters on Saturday regarding the ongoing Tirupati laddu controversy, Naidu emphasized the temple’s rich history of over 200 years and the deep emotional ties devotees have with the sacred offerings.
He raised pointed questions about the previous government’s inaction, specifically regarding incidents such as the removal of the Ram statue’s head and the burning of the Antarvedi Ratham. “What did the YSRCP government do while temples were under attack?” he queried, expressing concern over the perceived neglect of religious sentiments. Naidu remarked on the intrinsic value of Swami’s laddu, noting, “If Swami’s laddu is present in a home, the entire house would be filled with its aroma.”
He criticized former Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy, suggesting that his actions may tarnish the sanctity of the unique laddus, asking rhetorically whether people would change their opinions despite attempts to praise him. “I will think ten times about Tirumala Srivaru. I will not make any mistakes regarding Swami. Despiet the sentiments of devotees have been hurt in laddu issue, I cannot remain passive while evil deeds are committed,” Naidu stated, highlighting his emotional connection to Venkateswara Swamy, whom he referred to as his family’s deity.
Naidu confirmed that inspections are underway in temples across Andhra Pradesh to ensure that the sanctity of religious practices is upheld. He pointed out discrepancies in pricing, questioning how ghee, which should be priced at Rs. 600 per kg, was being sold for Rs. 320. He accused the previous administration of disrupting established systems in the name of reverse tendering. Looking ahead, Naidu announced plans to engage in discussions with Vedic scholars and abbots to explore strategies for preserving the revered traditions of Tirumala.
