Amaravati : June 21: Chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu re-entered the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly on Friday amidst loud cheers and standing ovations from members of the House. His return marked the fulfillment of a significant vow he made in 2021, following a period of political tumult and personal affronts.
As the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) chief stepped into the Assembly, he was greeted with a grand welcome. Vedic scholars performed rituals at the main gate, and a visibly emotional Naidu saluted the steps of the Assembly. This touching scene was met with applause from many MLAs, highlighting the moment’s emotional weight.
Inside his chamber, Naidu received blessings from Vedic pundits before taking his seat. Later, he entered the Assembly hall, where ministers and MLAs stood up to honour him, celebrating his return as the chief minister for the fourth time.
This momentous return is rooted in an incident from November 19, 2021, when Naidu vowed not to re-enter the Assembly until he regained the chief minister’s post.
This decision came after enduring continuous insults from ruling YSR Congress members, culminating in a personal attack involving his wife. Naidu, committed to living with honour, declared he could bear the indignities no longer.
Fast forward to 2024, and the TDP, along with its allies BJP and Jana Sena, secured a resounding victory in the Andhra Pradesh Assembly polls. The TDP won 135 seats, the BJP 8, and Jana Sena 21 seats.
In the Lok Sabha elections, the TDP secured 16 seats, with BJP and Jana Sena winning 3 and 2 seats, respectively. The 16th Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly commenced its maiden session today with the swearing-in of newly elected MLAs. Naidu’s arrival was met with a standing ovation, marking his triumphant return and the realisation of his vow.
On June 12, 2024, he was sworn in as chief minister in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Ministers Amit Shah, Nitin Gadkari, JP Nadda, and other dignitaries.
