Centre approves new missile testing range in Andhra Pradesh

The Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS), led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved the establishment of a new missile testing range in the Nagayalanka area of Andhra Pradesh’s Krishna district. The decision aims to enhance the country’s defense capabilities, particularly in the testing of advanced tactical missile systems.

The Defense Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) will utilize this facility for test-firing various missile systems, including surface-to-air and anti-tank missiles. This new range is expected to play a vital role in bolstering national security through comprehensive testing of sophisticated weapons systems.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu expressed his gratitude to the Prime Minister and CCS for this initiative. He emphasized the significant impact the new facility will have on the defense infrastructure and highlighted its potential to drive job creation and technological growth in the region.

The DRDO is currently advancing in the development of numerous defense systems, including Very Short Range Air Defence Systems (VSHORADS), man-portable anti-tank guided missiles, and quick-reaction surface-to-air missiles. The new testing range will provide a safe and reliable launch site for evaluating the performance of these critical systems.
