PM Modi Inaugurates Cherlapalli Railway Terminal
Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated the Cherlapalli Railway Terminal on Monday afternoon. This terminal has been built with state-of-the-art technology and features, resembling an airport.
The construction of the Cherlapalli Railway Terminal cost approximately Rs 413 crore. Modi noted that the terminal is conveniently located near the Outer Ring Road (ORR) and is expected to play a vital role in the development of Telangana.
He also highlighted that it has been developed as a solar station. During his address, Prime Minister Modi emphasized the importance of modern railway stations like Cherlapalli for facilitating ease of doing business.
He mentioned that in 2014, only five cities had metro systems, but this number has grown to 21 cities over the past ten years. Modi stated that they are setting a benchmark for Indian Railways, mentioning how Vande Bharat trains are transporting millions of people.
He reported that 35 percent of railway electrification has been completed in the country. The introduction of Vande Bharat, Amrit Bharat, and Namo Bharat trains is significant, with increasing demand for high-speed trains.
He also shared that the trial run for the Vande Bharat sleeper coach train, capable of reaching speeds of 180 km/h, has been successfully completed. The bullet train project is on track to be realized soon, with 30,000 km of railway lines constructed in the past ten years.
Modi explained that the development of railways focuses on infrastructure, passenger facilities, connectivity to remote areas, and employment generation. He mentioned that new connectivity arrangements are being made in Jammu and Kashmir, Odisha, and Telangana, with priority given to railway modernization.
Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy participated in the event virtually, alongside Union Minister of State Bandi Sanjay and other public figures. The Cherlapalli Railway Terminal has been developed as the fourth terminal to alleviate pressure on the Secunderabad, Nampally, and Kacheguda railway stations and to reduce traffic congestion in the city.
This terminal, built at a cost of about Rs. 428 crore over a span of six and a half years, will enhance transport facilities for passengers from suburban areas. Moreover, officials announced that starting from the 7th of this month, an additional stop has been set up at Cherlapalli for several trains, including the Secunderabad-Sirpur Kagaznagar-Secunderabad Express and the Guntur-Secunderabad-Guntur Express.
Trains traveling to and from Chennai Central from Hyderabad Station will commence operations from March 7, while trains going to and from Gorakhpur-Secunderabad will start from the Cherlapalli Terminal on March 12.
