A severe cyclonic circulation over the Southwest Bay of Bengal is expected to intensify into a cyclonic storm by Friday morning, with significant weather changes predicted for Andhra Pradesh. According to Ronamki Kurmanath, managing director of the Disaster Management Agency, the storm will bring heavy rains across South Coastal Andhra from November 28 to 30, with Rayalaseema also experiencing heavy showers on Friday and Saturday.
Widespread light to moderate rains are expected in other parts of the state. Gusty winds, reaching speeds of 40-50 km/h with gusts up to 60 km/h, will continue along the coast until Friday evening, and will intensify to 50-60 km/h, with gusts potentially reaching 70 km/h from Friday evening until Saturday morning. The India Meteorological Department has confirmed that the severe cyclonic circulation is likely to touch the Sri Lankan coast within the next 12 hours, before moving toward the north-northwest.
The storm is expected to cross the north Tamil Nadu and Puducherry coast, between Karaikal and Mahabalipuram, on the morning of November 30. In response to the severe weather, the department has issued a red alert for very heavy rains in Tirupati and Nellore districts over the next 24 hours, while orange alerts have been issued for Annamaya and Chittoor districts.
A yellow alert has been raised for Prakasam, Sathya Sai, and YSR districts, indicating heavy rains in those areas. Fishermen have been warned not to venture into the sea due to winds of 45-55 km/h along the south coast, and danger warnings have been issued in all ports across the state. Farmers have been advised to take precautions while working in the fields. The storm has caused an abrupt shift in weather conditions, coinciding with the harvest season in Andhra Pradesh. As a result, farmers are taking immediate measures to harvest paddy and dry it on the roads.
