The Andhra Pradesh government has reaffirmed its commitment to developing Amaravati as the sole capital of the State in an affidavit submitted to the Supreme Court. The government assured the court that it will continue the construction and development of Amaravati as the single capital city, housing all three civic wings of the state. The affidavit emphasized adherence to the Land Pooling Scheme (LPS) agreements and promises made to stakeholders, stating that the city will be developed in line with the notified master plan.
This includes the creation of nine thematic cities envisioned as part of the core developmental plans. Filed by chief secretary Neerabh Kumar Prasad on behalf of the previous Telugu Desam Party (TDP) government, the affidavit sought the Supreme Court's guidance on disposing of petitions challenging the Andhra Pradesh High Court's full-bench order. The government also requested a revised schedule to complete the capital's development works, as mandated by earlier high court directives. The affidavit detailed that the remaining land with the Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA) will be allocated for various infrastructure needs,
following the return of reconstituted plots to LPS participants. This land will be utilized for the city’s development, fostering investments, job creation, and social infrastructure. Reiterating its commitment to contractual obligations with farmers, the State government outlined a timeline of key events, including the declaration of Amaravati as the capital, the initiation of the LPS, active farmer participation, changes in governance after 2019, and subsequent litigation.
