BRS and BJP claiming credit for two lakh farm loan waiver

Opposition parties BRS and BJP in Telangana are claiming credit for Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy’s announcement of a Rs two lakh farm loan waiver. BJP Rajya Sabha member K Laxman questioned why people should vote for Congress in the Lok Sabha elections when the promises made to farmers and agriculture workers have not been fulfilled. BRS MLA T Harish Rao claimed that the CM made the announcement to waive farmers’ loans before August 15 only with an eye on the Lok Sabha polls. Meanwhile, state BJP spokesperson Amarnath claimed that the fast held by state BJP president G Kishan Reddy on farmers’ issues led the Congress government to announce the loan waiver. CM Revanth Reddy announced that his government would waive farm loans up to Rs two lakh as a “single amount” before August 15 and offer a Rs 500 bonus on MSP to farmers on paddy to be cultivated next time.
