The senior leaders of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) are expected to meet on Wednesday to review the Lok Sabha poll results and discuss the formation of the new government. The meeting will be attended by JD(U) leader and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, as well as Telugu Desam Party president N. Chandrababu Naidu, who is poised to become the next Andhra Pradesh chief minister. During the meeting, top leaders of the BJP and its other allies are also expected to be present.
The purpose of the meeting is to congratulate Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his expected record-equalling third term and to discuss the details of the new government, which is likely to have a different composition and character with a larger representation of the BJP’s allies.
Although the NDA has comfortably crossed the majority mark of 272 in the 543-member Lok Sabha, the BJP has fallen short of the magic number for the first time since 2014 and will need the support of its allies for government formation.
The TDP, JD(U), Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena, and Chirag Paswan-led LJP (Ram Vilas) have won 16, 12, seven, and five seats, respectively, and are expected to play a crucial role in the formation of the government.
