Bangladesh’s Tanzim Hasan Sakib Fined Amidst T20 World Cup Triumph

During their final group D match of the T20 World Cup against Nepal, Bangladesh seamer Tanzim Hasan Sakib was fined 15 percent of his match fee for breaching the ICC’s code of conduct. The incident occurred during the third over of the Nepal chase on Sunday, when Tanzim was involved in a verbal altercation with Nepal skipper Rohit Paudel at the Arnos Vale Ground in Kingstown. Despite the altercation, Tanzim’s exceptional bowling performance contributed to Bangladesh’s 21-run victory, as he finished with a match-winning spell of 4/7. The 21-year-old was found to have breached Article 2.12 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which pertains to inappropriate physical contact with anyone involved in an international match. The charges were brought forth by on-field umpires Ahsan Raza and Sam Nogajski, third umpire Jayaraman Madanagopal, and fourth umpire Kumar Dharmasena. Tanzim admitted to the offence, accepted the sanction proposed by Richie Richardson of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees, and there was no need for a formal hearing. Following this incident, Bangladesh’s win over Nepal secured their progression to the Super Eight stage of the T20 World Cup. Their next match will be against Australia in Antigua on Thursday.
