Chintakayala Ayyannapatrudu has been unanimously elected as the Speaker of the 3rd Legislature of the newly formed Andhra Pradesh State Assembly. His name was announced on Saturday by Protem Speaker Butchaiah Chaudhary.
Following the announcement, Ayyannapatrudu took charge as the new Speaker, with chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu, deputy chief minister Pawan Kalyan, and BJP legislators ceremoniously seating him in the Speaker’s chair.
A seasoned politician, Ayyannapatrudu hails from the Narsipatnam Assembly Constituency in Anakapalli District and boasts over four decades of political experience. His political journey began with the inception of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) in 1983, and he has been a steadfast supporter of the party ever since.
Throughout his career, Ayyannapatrudu has secured seven victories as an MLA and once as an MP. He is also a five-time minister, having overseen key departments such as Technical Education, Sports, Roads and Buildings, Forests, and Panchayat Raj. A graduate, Ayyannapatrudu has demonstrated his electoral prowess by contesting in 10 Assembly elections and two Parliamentary elections since 1983.
However, the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) abstained from participating in the programme. Chief minister Naidu, in his address, expressed confidence in Ayyannapatrudu’s ability to enhance the dignity and decorum of the Assembly, citing his extensive experience and deep understanding of legislative processes.
