Amaravati: The two Telugu States Andhra Pradesh and Telangana are all set to experience another milestone in the history with the historical development on June 2.
According to the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, the city of Hyderabad will remain the sole capital city for Telangana from June 2 onwards ending the 10-year joint capital period. The state of Andhra Pradesh will lose Hyderabad’s joint capital status just after three days.
As per the history, Muhammad Quli Qutb Shah established Hyderabad in 1591 to extend the city beyond the fortified Golconda in his dynasty. In 1687 the city was occupied by Mughals and its Viceroy Asaf Jahi declared his sovereignty in 1724 also known as the Nizams. Hyderabad served as the imperial capital of Asaf Jahis from 1769 to 1948.
As the capital of the princely state of Hyderabad, the city housed the British Residency and cantonment until Indian Independence in 1947. The city of Hyderabad was annexed by the Indian Union in 1948 and continued as the capital of Hyderabad State from 1948 to 1956.

Again the city of Hyderabad was made the capital city in 1956 for the newly formed Andhra State. Hyderabad city became the joint capital of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana with a transitional arrangement for 10 years after the state bifurcation in 2014. The stipulated period will end on June 2 as per the AP Reorganisation Act.
Indeed, Kurnool City was the capital city of Andhra State from October 1,1953 to October 31, 1956 after the bifurcation from combined Madras State. The Andhra Pradesh State was merged with the Hyderabad State with a larger perspective as the Telugu-speaking people should be one. As part of the interesting political developments, Hyderabad was the capital city from November 1, 1956 for the entire Hyderabad and Andhra after formation of Andhra Pradesh.
Then Tanguturi Prakasam Pantulu, Neelam Sanjeeva Reddy, and Boorgula Ramakrishna Rao were important leaders in the political developments after the State bifurcation and formation of the new capital Hyderabad.
Leaders like Neelam Sanjiv Reddy, Damodaram Sanjeevaiah, Kasu Brahmananda Reddy, PV Narasimha Rao, Jalagam Vengala Rao, M Chenna Reddy, Tanguturi Anjaiah, Bhavanam Venkatrami Reddy, Kotla Vijayabhaskar Reddy, NT Rama Rao, Nadendla Bhaskar Rao, N Janardhan Reddy, N Chandrababu Naidu, YS Rajasekhar Reddy, K Rosaiah and N Kirnakumar Reddy became the Chief Ministers during the period from 1956 to 2014 and they implemented several plans to develop the capital of Hyderabad. The then Chief Ministers NT Rama Rao and N Chandrababu Naidu played remarkable roles in the development of Hyderabad. Especially then CM Chandrababu Naidu’s regime transformed Hyderabad into
the global city.
