AP to appoint academic experts as VCs to purge Universities

In a move aimed at improving the quality of higher education in Andhra Pradesh, minister for HRD and IT, Nara Lokesh, announced that a notification has been issued for the appointment of academic experts as vice chancellors (VCs) of State universities. The decision is part of a broader initiative to distance universities from political influence and focus on academic excellence. Speaking on the issue, Lokesh emphasized the need to thoroughly purge universities, which he said had become centers of political rehabilitation over the past five years.

“Our government’s goal is to bring universities at par with national and international educational institutions by appointing professionals who are dedicated to academic progress and research,” he stated. Applications are being invited from professors and academic leaders who are committed to elevating the State’s educational standards.

The notification underscores a focus on research-driven growth, with the ultimate aim of improving the global rankings of Andhra Pradesh’s universities. The last date for submitting applications is September 28. Interested candidates can view the detailed notification and apply through the official website of the Andhra Pradesh State Council of Higher Education
