AP Rains: Heavy Rains Impact Visakhapatnam and Kakinada Coasts

AP Rains: Heavy rainfall is affecting many districts in Andhra Pradesh due to the impact of a cyclone. Life has come to a standstill in several areas, particularly in the combined districts of Nellore, Prakasam, Guntur, East Godavari, and Visakhapatnam, as well as in Rayalaseema.

Significant wave activity is being observed along the coasts of Visakhapatnam and Kakinada, with waves crashing into shops at RK Beach in Visakhapatnam. In Kongapalem of the Pedagantyada mandal, a petal shed collapsed due to the rain, resulting in one person being injured.

In Kakinada district, the sea has become turbulent along the Uppada coast of Kothapalli mandal, where large waves are causing destruction. Trees, electricity poles, and houses have fallen due to the rough sea. The situation is similarly severe on the Antarvedi coast, where waves are swelling at the confluence of the Godavari River.

In Pallipalem, houses and a beach road have been washed away by the waves, and the shore of Allavaram mandal in Konaseema district is also experiencing rising waves. Furthermore, the ONC plant has been impacted by seawater, and aqua ponds are flooded.

An offshore wind has been reported at Tada. The Meteorological Department indicates that Vayugundam crossed the coast at Tada in Tirupati district, making landfall at a speed of 22 km/h in the last six hours before weakening to a low pressure system. This weather pattern has resulted in heavy rains across numerous coastal areas and Rayalaseema districts, including parts of North Tamil Nadu.

Flooding Reaches Reservoirs

The Chitravati River is flowing high near Veldurthi in the CK Palli mandal of Srisatyasai district, leading to disrupted traffic to Veldurthi, Ganginepalli thandas, Erronipalli, Brahmanapalli, and Chinnappareddypalli villages. In YSR district, floodwaters are entering the Gandikota and Mylavaram reservoirs.

The Chitravati balancing reservoir has reached capacity, while Paidipalem, Vamikonda, and Sarvaraya Sagar reservoirs are also experiencing flooding. Additionally, areas in the outskirts of Nellore city, such as Autonagar, Chandrababu Nagar, Talpagiri Colony, Jonnwada Road, and Pottepalem Kalju, have been inundated due to rainfall.

In Anantapur district, crops were damaged by rain on Wednesday night, particularly maize and groundnut, causing losses for farmers. Many fields of paddy are now waterlogged.
