AP govt offices shift from Hyderabad amidst several unresolved issues

The Capital News

Vijayawada: May 25: In the wake of the Telangana government’s notice to vacate all buildings occupied by the Andhra Pradesh government in Hyderabad before June 2, the Formation Day of Telangana, AP government offices are relocating to Andhra Pradesh. This move comes amidst several unresolved issues, including the division of government organisations and employees between Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. According to the AP Reorganisation Act, Hyderabad will serve as the capital of Telangana alone from June 2, 2024. Consequently, the office of the Andhra Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission (APERC) has been shifted from Hyderabad to Kurnool, a week before Hyderabad ceases to be the common capital of both states. APERC chairman Justice CV Nagarjuna Reddy inaugurated the new office in Kurnool on Thursday. This relocation follows chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy’s directive from a year ago to move APERC to Kurnool, designated as Andhra Pradesh’s ‘judicial capital.’ Over 90 percent of Andhra Pradesh government offices were shifted in 2016. Chief minister Jagan Mohan Reddy also instructed the General Administration Department (GAD) to hand over all buildings in Hyderabad to the Telangana government and move the remaining offices to Andhra Pradesh. While several tribunals and judicial offices have already been relocated to Kurnool, others have been moved to Vijayawada and Guntur.
