Telangana Talli Statue Sparks Controversy, Kavitha Performs Abhishekam

BRS MLC Kalvakuntla Kavitha strongly opposed the model of the Telangana Talli statue proposed by the Congress government at the state secretariat.

BRS MLC Kalvakuntla Kavitha strongly opposed the model of the Telangana Talli statue proposed by the Congress government at the state secretariat. She criticized the alteration of the statue’s design, calling it disgraceful. Kavitha condemned the removal of Bathukamma, Telangana's unique festival symbol, from the statue and replacing it with the Congress party’s hand symbol.

Expressing her disapproval, Kavitha performed a ceremonial milk and Panchamritha (holy mixture) abhishekam to the original Telangana Talli statue at Telangana Bhavan in Hyderabad. She asserted that Telangana's true mother is the one celebrated during the statehood movement, not the one symbolized by the Congress design.

Kavitha accused TPCC Chief Revanth Reddy of boasting about replacing a grand depiction of Telangana Talli with a poor representation. "Do Telangana women always have to remain poor?" she questioned. She emphasized that the BRS would not be intimidated by what she termed as Revanth Reddy's empty threats.

Criticizing the Congress government’s redesign, she argued that Telangana's culture celebrates flowers, not crops like jowar and maize, which are common in other states. Kavitha condemned the removal of Bathukamma from the statue, asserting that it dishonors Telangana’s rich heritage.

She also questioned whether the Congress deliberately portrayed Telangana Talli as impoverished to imply that Telangana women should remain poor. Furthermore, she criticized the government for claiming to honor nine artists involved in the statue’s design while excluding women from the recognition list.
