Chennai: The Meteorological Department has announced the formation of a fresh low-pressure area in the central region of the south Bay of Bengal.
This low pressure is expected to strengthen over the next two days and move towards the coastal districts in a west-northwest direction. As a result, moderate rains with thundershowers are anticipated in various parts of the city during this period.
Officials explained that this low-pressure area developed on Monday due to a surface circulation in the southeast Bay of Bengal. It is expected to intensify and shift towards the coastal regions to the west and northwest. Consequently, moderate rains have already been reported in some parts of the state, as well as in the Puducherry and Karaikal regions.
On Tuesday, heavy rains accompanied by thundershowers are expected in Puducherry and Karaikal, while scattered rains are likely in certain areas of Chengalpattu, Villupuram, Cuddalore, and Mylapore districts.
Heavy rainfall is also anticipated in various locations across Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kanchipuram, Thiruvarur, and Nagapattinam districts. Additionally, on Wednesday, moderate rains are forecasted for many areas in Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kanchipuram, Chengalpattu, Cuddalore, and Villupuram districts. Gusty winds, reaching speeds of 35 to 45 km/h, are expected along the coastal areas for the next three days.
