Policy on dumping yards in Gram Panchayats soon: Pawan Kalyan

Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan announced in the Legislative Council that a comprehensive policy

Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan announced in the Legislative Council that a comprehensive policy for the establishment and management of dumping yards in Andhra Pradesh's Gram panchayats will soon be implemented.

During a discussion on the issue, Pawan Kalyan highlighted the critical need for effective dumping yard management and emphasized that maintenance is a shared responsibility. He pointed out that some panchayats lack even the minimal land required for schools, necessitating innovative approaches such as shared dumping yards across 10–15 panchayats.

He also revealed that Rs 101 crore was spent on painting secretariat buildings under the Jagan government, with Rs 49 crore for initial painting and Rs 52 crore for re-painting. Generating revenue from waste Pawan Kalyan highlighted efforts to generate revenue from garbage, citing a revenue of Rs 2,600 crore from 101 Gram Panchayats. This initiative provided employment to over 2.5 lakh individuals. The Deputy Chief Minister stressed the need for public awareness and allocated garbage-generated wealth to workers.

He proposed innovative measures, including planting coconut trees along village roads to generate additional income, and called for a rejuvenation of financially struggling panchayats. “Self-sufficient panchayats can only grow with committed leadership,” he said, promising phased implementation based on success stories.

The Deputy CM criticized bureaucratic inefficiencies, alleging that previous governments diverted funds and failed to allocate state shares to panchayats. Highlighting unresolved issues with contractor payments for road construction, he urged legal action to recover funds. "It is not feasible to resolve all challenges at once, but committed leadership can make progress," he remarked. Pawan Kalyan urged NRIs and other stakeholders to support development projects in rural areas. Ends//
