Freedom of Speech under threat : Y S Jagan
On the occasion of Constitution Day, Former Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy took to Twitter to highlight concerns regarding the suppression of fundamental rights and the integrity of the electoral process.
Jagan stated that everyone's fundamental right to freedom of speech has been under threat for some time. He emphasized that the Constitution guarantees key principles such as sovereignty, socialism, secularism, democracy, justice, equality, freedom, and fraternity, and urged citizens to recognize the significance of Constitution Day in upholding these values.
In his tweet, Jagan highlighted the importance of having elected representatives as the cornerstone of democracy. He expressed worry over the growing doubts about the performance of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), stressing that there are increasing concerns about their reliability.
"There is concern across the country about the performance of EVMs. Many doubts are being raised about the performance of EVMs. Elections are being held with ballot papers in most countries. We should ask ourselves why we should not move towards ballots," Jagan wrote. Reiterating his belief in the importance of transparent democratic practices, Jagan underscored that democracy should not only exist but should also be visibly evident to the public. His statements reflect a growing discourse around electoral integrity and the protection of individual freedoms in the current political climate.
