Flood water level At Prakasam barrage : (Kannayyanaidu )

Barrage gates repair : The flood flow at Prakasam Barrage has been gradually decreasing since Monday night, providing relief to Vijayawada city and the downstream villages. The floodwaters had surged to 11.4 lakh cusecs on Monday morning but reduced to 8.94 lakh cusecs by Tuesday morning. Residents of the downstream villages breathed a sigh of relief as the intensity of the Krishna River began to subside. However, the flood’s impact continues to trouble many villages across Guntur, Bapatla, NTR, and Krishna districts. The people of Avanigadda constituency are experiencing some relief as the water release from Prakasam Barrage has decreased.

The floodwater level has dropped by a foot at Nagayalanka and Srirampada Kshetram Ghat, but riverside villages remain on alert as water flowed parallel to the embankment throughout the night. Lanka villages in Avanigadda, Mopidevi, and Nagayalanka mandals are still under a water blockade, leaving residents isolated and in need of drinking water and food supplies. The government is preparing to repair the damaged gates at Prakasam Barrage. Gate manufacturing expert Kannayyanaidu inspected the barrage gates from atop the bridge and confirmed that the structure remains strong, though two gates have sustained slight damage.

He recommended removing the heavy boats obstructing the gates first, with repairs possible only after the flood level at the barrage decreases to 5 lakh cusecs. Former Minister Devineni Umamaheswara Rao is overseeing the repair operations, with experts from Kakinada expected to assist in removing the boats. Meanwhile, in Vijayawada, the Budameru rivulet, which had inundated large parts of the city, has also begun to recede. Currently, the flood flow in Budameru has decreased to 6,000 cusecs, with officials expecting further reductions in the coming days.
