Mangalagiri: April 20: Nara Brahmani, daughter-in-law of TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu, attributed the development of women’s self-help groups in Andhra Pradesh to him.
Speaking during an election campaign on behalf of her husband and TDP national general secretary Nara Lokesh in the Mangalagiri constituency on Saturday, Brahmani highlighted Chandrababu Naidu’s consistent efforts towards empowering women and the underprivileged in the state.
Brahmani noted that the women’s self-help groups movement in Andhra Pradesh gained global recognition during the TDP’s tenure, with approximately one crore women currently enrolled in these groups. She credited Chandrababu Naidu for playing a pivotal role in advancing women’s empowerment through the self-help groups movement.
Additionally, Brahmani announced the TDP’s ‘Kalalaku Rekkalu’ programme, aimed at providing financial support to women for higher education, which she believes will significantly contribute to women’s education in the future. She also commended Chandrababu Naidu’s initiatives in promoting professional education by facilitating the establishment of engineering colleges in Andhra Pradesh.
Brahmani criticized the YSRCP government for undoing the progress made during the TDP’s regime, citing increases in electricity bills and the discontinuation of ‘Anna canteens,’ which provided affordable meals to the poor. She also expressed concerns over the halting of Amaravati’s capital works by the YSRCP, citing the negative impact on women laborers who relied on daily labor work related to the capital city’s development.
